Sherfield signal box. opened 1940 and closed in 1965. situated 48 miles 60 chains from London Paddington, and 2 miles 22 chains from Bramley. What was known as an intermediate block post, controling one or two signals in each direction. Its purpose was to break up the long section between Bramley and Basingstoke thus speeding up the flow of traffic over the branch.
