Former LSWR 3 SUB 'nutcracker' electric multiple unit on the Up Slow.
In the 1950s and 60s the line behind it, beside the platform with the long canopy, was used by ferry wagons from Spain (belonging to the 'Transfesa' company and painted in blue with a red stripe) unloading oranges. These wagons would have come on the train-ferry from Dunkirk to Dover, the wagons running all the way including a gauge change when leaving Spain.
I wonder how many commuter passing on their way to town every noticed this international traffic. '
