Gee Street which is now the access to Tesco. On the 1963/4 O/S map as viewed in the photograp is the 'Brewery' to the left and 'Works' to the right.

The brewery is now the Tesco & Car Park. If you look on Google Satellite you will see the old Wire Works building is still there (Warrington Central Trading Estate) does not line up with where the brewerey used to be.

This is a form of 'Check Rail', common on small radius curves. But in this case the rail is there to allow the ground between the rails to be built up for people or vehicles to cross the track on the level while leaving a gap for the wheel flanges near the rail.
