Sandwich's (original 1773) Toll Bridge - 6d for a car (mid 1970's) but a displayed list of prices covered carts carrying bullocks, sheep etc. One of it's big contributions to Sandwich was to fund the local town's costs at the expense of long, long queues of traffic, local and tourist, for many decades. |

Site of Petbow (Peters and Bowler) Diesel Generators from this time onwards owned by the Bird family until its demise the late 70's. It was originally a WW1 army camp full of typical 30' wide huts which the Birds turned into a modern (for the time) factory producing a huge % of Britain's exports around the world. |
