Tower at the end of the wrought iron tubular bridge carrying the railway to Holyhead. The bridge was designed by William Fairbairn and constructed by Robert Stephenson. It was the prototype for the much larger original Britannia Bridge crossing of the Menai Strait, destroyed by fire in 1970. Here the tower mimics its surroundings

The photographer has just managed to get all eight of the castle's massive towers within shot. The fortification was designed by Master James of St George, an Italian, who, with his client Edward I, employed knowledge gained from the Crusader castles built in the Middle East. The castle walls are up to 8m thick, built atop a rocky outcrop. Edward I's other major castles in North Wales were at Caernarvon, Beaumaris and Harlech
