Or, as it's known locally, Shady Lane. Much of it is overhung with trees from the Thornbridge estate and is beautifully sheltered - but very dark at night!

Midland Railway between Manchester, Buxton, Bakewell, Derby to London. Buxton is to the left, Bakewell off to the right. A MR director lived in Thornfield Hall and the station had private steps to the Hall's staff quarters and beyond across a driveway (now a road) to the Hall.

You mean ThornBRIDGE hall. Thornfield is in Jane Eyre!

Railway line linking Manchester to London for the Midland Railway Co, closed 1968 and now a walking trail. Bakewell is off to the right and Buxton off to the left.

This was once an all-women's teacher training college. The outbuildings were used as well as the hall itself as residential 'halls'.

The Hall had its own railway station! I think it was a Mr Boot (a businessman who owned the Hall) had it built for his convenience. The railway tracks have been lifted and, like many other former railway lines, has become a very popular trail for walkers and cyclists.

Now the Hall is once again privately owned and houses its own highly successful brewery.
