The history of St Cuthbert's Paper Mill has been written by:

B G Luker, Mill 364. Paper Making at St Cuthberts, published by St Cuthbert's Paper Mill, 1991.

The mill was greatly expanded between 1838 and 1884, by which time it was rail connected. The mill relied on the purity of the water of the river Axe, which surfaced at Wookey Hole
