Many Private Owner (PO) coals wagons had bottom doors. These could be used to drop coal from the lines running on concrete staithes. This arrangement might have been rather more efficient than that seen in EPW027869 as a group of wagons could be pushed over the drops while the coal was discharged. It would appear from the clean concrete and the small amount of coal in the storage areas that the gas work had not gone into full production.
