The David Lewis Northern Hospital eventually demolished to make way for the new Liverpool underground train network that opened 3rd May 1977. The last departure from Liverpool Exchange Station was at 23.35 on Friday 29th April 1977: a special service to mark the station's closure. It ran the short distance to Liverpool Lime Street Station.
