This is a unique photo for speedway fans. After speedway was introduced in February 1928 at High Beech, Epping Forest, Greenford was opened for a short time as a speedway track later that year and at the time this photo was taken. There were very few photos taken at Greenford and this collection certainly brings the track to life.

In 1919 the London Trotting Club opened this track at Greenford Park and it became the premier venue for trotting races in the south of England. In 1928 the Ealing & District Motorcycle Club made it a pioneer speedway venue - one of the earliest in the country.
