The MG works is the north-lighted block in the centre foreground. The works to the left of the MG buildings is Pavlova Leather, which tanned and processed sheepskins. The MG building originally belonged to Pavlova and was used as a fellmongery, where sheepskins are cleaned, the wool trimmed, and preserved. After WW1 this building was not required, due to less local sheep farming, so was sold to Morris for MG production. The two factories coexisted and shared many services, and although the MG works grew around it, Pavlova actually outlasted MG, finally closing in 1996. The Pavlova site has now been developed as a housing estate. |
