Not as old as it looks - this building dates from 1921 and has W H Smith has been the only occupier since then.

Mock Tudor building built in 1924 for the National Provincial Bank and now occupied by a branch Costa Coffee. The main entrance door's frame is still embellished with the National Provincial's monogram.

The War Memorial, subsequently moved to the Bancroft Gardens (see indistinct picture on image reference EPW026845, dated May 1929) and later moved to a Garden of Remembrance opposite the junction of Southern Lane and Old Town, as shown on the photograph.

Barclays Bank: This building was the Market Hall, built in 1821, and converted in 1908 to its current use. Barclays are still in residence in 2012.

The image details give December 1925 as the date the photograph was taken. The near empty streets un the heart of town indicate that the day was either a Sunday or a Bank Holiday making the date 6, 13, 20, 25, 26 or 27 December 1925. Furthermore the positions of the shadows show that the time was about half past two in the afternoon.

The white semi circular building is Barclays bank, the building with the tower is Lloyds bank
