This is the first time I've seen my fathers birthplace and street. He was born at 20 Randolph road in 1926. Joined the Para's in '45. Unfortunately passed away 2000. He was always proud of his roots, loved his stories. The family name is Hammond.

1952. Theses were Prefab's. A prefabricated house of timber frame and painted Asbestos clad exterior. Some families preferred these over the old house they had been moved from. It had fitted cupboards. A fitted kitchen which some included fridge, cooker, fold away ironing board and the big plus...a bathroom!!

1952. To the top right of this image you will see the local shops that serviced this area.

It was a vibrant & friendly community that came together after WW2.

You can also see the debris and prefab housing, the results of bombing, particularly to the centre of the image.
