Electric passenger services ran from Liverpool Exchange to Aintree Sefton Arms from 1906 to 1951 with empty electric trains being run to about 1962. The Liverpool Overhead Railway ran through trains to Aintree from 1906 to about 1908 and on Grand National Day from 1906 to 1956. There was also an electric locomotive that worked freight trains from Aintree Sorting Sidings to North Mersey Goods Yard from 1912 to circa 1919.

This is Litherland Sidings Signal Box.It was constructed in 1900 for sidings on the North side of the line, but opening was delayed until 1901 whilst extra sidings were added on the South side of the line. The signalbox closed on 8th November 1964 and was replaced by a small ground frame to control the remaining tar works sidings. The ground frame was taken out of use in November 1970 and closed from 2nd February 1971.
