Burnholme, built 1880s by W G Penty for John Bellerby. Later Burnholme WMC/Burnholme Social Club. Grounds behind the house used as a speedway track 1930-31: http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk/York%20Speedway.htm - later used for housing, as shown. Half of Burnholme Ave built when this photograph was taken. The building is to be demolished: http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/10602557.Burnholme_Social_Club_building_to_be_demolished/ http://www.yorkstories.co.uk/blog/tag/burnholme/

I'm sure the info inside Morrisons says this was the chimney of an incinerator plant?

Can anybody confirm the correct use?

Understand there was an air-raid shelter or other WW2 structure here, dug into the bank, presumably these are connected with it?
