West Kirby RAF Barracks WW2 The Airfield was further away and still had runway and some barracks still up until early 1968. My father was stationed there during the war. |

As far as I'm aware, there was never a runway at RAF West Kirby - it was "basic training" only. |

#Good point about the re-alignment - a challenging road in the old days for enthusiastic drivers - many of whom found themselves in adjoining fields upside-down - when the road outstripped their limited ability !. |

There was an old RAF site here when I was young (late 1950s) with runways and bunkers still clearly visible. |

No runways here Dave - just concrete roads and paths - many of which are still there - under heavy tree planting |

Royal Air Force, West Kirby. A Basic Training Unit (Square Bashing) Comprising four squadrons, Trenchard,Churchill,Smuts & Roosevelt Looking at Google Earth, the only remains of the site are, A commemorative monument on the site of the Main Gate and traces of several camp roads.
