West Kirby RAF Barracks WW2 The Airfield was further away and still had runway and some barracks still up until early 1968. My father was stationed there during the war.

As far as I'm aware, there was never a runway at RAF West Kirby - it was "basic training" only.

#Good point about the re-alignment - a challenging road in the old days for enthusiastic drivers - many of whom found themselves in adjoining fields upside-down - when the road outstripped their limited ability !.

There was an old RAF site here when I was young (late 1950s) with runways and bunkers still clearly visible.

No runways here Dave - just concrete roads and paths - many of which are still there - under heavy tree planting

A Basic Training Unit (Square Bashing)

Comprising four squadrons, Trenchard,Churchill,Smuts & Roosevelt

Looking at Google Earth, the only remains of the site are,

A commemorative monument on the site of the Main Gate and traces of several camp roads.
