Smithfield Goods Station, remarkable in that the wagons seen in this image on the bridge, were able to enter the bonded warehouse side across the road,, and descend to ground level using a gravity balance hoist... the water was controlled in the pump room by the bridge.

The London Fruit Exchange of Spitalfields Market, opened in 1929. In 1963 the Wool Exchange was moved in from the City by the City Corporation and it became the London Fruit and Wool Exchange. Spitalfields Market and its Exchange are not in the City of London, but in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, previously the London Borough of Stepney.
