' The photograph, taken around 1905, shows the house called in Hopelands in Highgate Road. It was built between 1850-60 on the site of a previous dwelling owned by the Eyland family called Hope Cottage, although not looking much like cottage this name remained on the new property until the early 1900s when it was changed to Hopelands. It was around this time the last of the Eyland family who occupied it left and retired I think to Malvern. The house was sadly demolished around 1984 and flats built on the site. It was because of this demolition that Highgate became a conservation area in 1988, this was extended in 1994 to protect other buildings of interest in the area from suffering a similar fate. '
