This was to become the site for the building of Bobby's, Exeter's largest and tallest department store (now John Lewis). The cinder black bomb site was still evident until building started in about 1957/58. As kids we used to play on this bomb site whilst waiting for the Whipton bus to take us home after a visit to the Savoy cinema. '
