' A rake of pre-nationalisation coaching stock apparently repurposed as a semi-permanent feature with stepped access to them. Many such items were acquired during WW2 as offices etc for local Home Guard units and the like, perhaps used at the time of the photo as changing rooms, rest rooms or stores for the adjacent businesses. The condition of these carriages suggest that they are not much longer for this world. There appear to be a number of allotment plots nearby. Very possibly a legacy of the WW2 'Dig for Victory' campaign, when areas of waste land were turned over for the production of fruit and vegetables for domestic consumption. '
