' BIRMINGHAM TOWN HALL...….FOUNDATION STONE GIVES THE DATE OF MDCCCXXXIV (1834) AND GIVES THE NAME OF JOSEPH HANSOM. HE WAS ALSO THE DESIGNER OF THE 'HANSOM CAB'. HE AND HIS CO-DESIGNER APPARENTLY UNDERQUOTED AND BECAME BANKRUPT. THE BUILDING WAS EXTENDED LENGTHWAYS AT THE REAR, INCREASING THE NUMBER OF COLUMNS, GIVING MORE ROOM TO ACCOMODATE THE LARGE MUSICAL ORGAN. '
