' Herbert Morrison House used to be headquarters to the London Labour Party. Originally part of the Robert Browning Settlement which provided medical treatment, legal advice and social and educational activities for local poor children. In 1899 it became the centre for the National Committee for Organised Labour which campaigned for old age pensions. The present building opened in 1902 as the Browning Club and Tavern, an alternative to the local pubs as it sold coffee. '
