' Stangate. With Operation tramaway beginning to make headway, Londoners were treated to the spectacle of new tracks being laid here in 1950 as part of the Festival of Britain works. A new one way system was put into place and trams went on to run round a circle of the building on the right down Lambeth Palace Road and up into Stangate. New track was also laid in York Road and Addington Street. Ironically the trams which originally used Stangate [having run up The Albert Embankment] were withdrawn on 6th January 1951. However, the new layout continued to be used right up to the "Last Day" on 5th July 1952. '
