The Minstrels Plot- music was played in this field in 1873 before the Happy Valley was gifted to the town- the gardens opened 1890. The erection of a noisy clanging cable car station just to the right (1969), and changing entertainment tastes stopped the music in 1987. The small stage (earlier a simple tent) was demolished and replaced with a cafe, with a small playground in the field. '
