' Trolleybus at the Stratford terminal in the Broadway. The 6th June 1937 saw the introduction of trolleybuses here with routes 697 & 699 passing through, and 669 terminating from Canning Town, later (from 6th February 1938) North Woolwich. Some three months later, on 12th September 1937, two further routes - 689 & 690 joined the 669 in terminating here. These latter routes were local circular services via Plashet Grove and Green Street. Replacement of the the last of the trams occurred on 5th November 1939 with the commencement of routes 661 & 663 passing through on their way to and from Aldgate. The Broadway was a rather busy location at peak times with up to three trolleybuses a minute passing through. After the withdrawal of route 695 on 6th January 1959 the trolleybus to diesel bus conversion programme in the stratford area took place over 3 stages - 661 & 663 on 18th August 1959; 669, 689 & 690 on 2nd February 1960, and finally routes 697 & 699 on 26th April 1960.
