' The old wartime British restaurant. Closed in 1965. I believe the building may have thereafter been used by the WRVS. In all probability it would have been the WVS (the forerunner of the WRVS) who ran the wartime facility. British Restaurants were communal restaurants set up by the Ministry of Food during WW2 to provide the public with cheap and nutritious (if very plain) meals that were not subject to the rationing quota. Many continued for some time after the war when food rationing continued. '
