' Railway level crossing of the Filton to Avonmouth line under construction. This allowed aircraft to cross from the Assembly Hall to the runway, the level crossing release was controlled by a lever in the Filton West Junction signal box. The barrier gates were controlled from a small cabin and moved horizontally to open the crossing. Apparently this was the only location in the UK where aircraft crossed a double track railway line on the level. '
