' This was Selly Oak fire station. The building, and all of those behind it are now wasteland and a used car lot but the ouline of the building, with its stables for the horses that pulled the steam fire engine are still there. Just off the bottom of the photo to the left stood the premises of the Carter car company that built cars there just before the First World War. '
