' CVA machine tool factory on land once part of Aldrington Farm. It was to be opened as a temporary building in 1917 but plans were changed so it could operate as a munitions factory in 1918. It began making machine tools in the 1920s and the site was extended in 1926. In 1934 it split with CAV of Acton and changed its company name to CVA Jigs Moulds & Tools Ltd. By the late 1950s, it had multiple sites in the Brighton area, including new sites in Hollingbury. In 1966, the company was bought by Kearney & Trecker, and in 1973, the Portland Road site, and others, closed and moved to Hollingbury. '
