' ST CHAD'S BISHOP'S HOUSE....ALSO BUILT BY AUGUSTUS PUGIN (1812-1852)FOR THE FIRST ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOP OF BIRMINGHAM...THOMAS WALSH....IN 1840 AND DEMOLISHED IN 1959 FOR THE CREATION OF THE RING ROAD. IT COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED IF THE CATHEDRAL WOULD PAY FOR THE EXTRA COST TO DIVERT THE RING ROAD AS HERBERT MANZONI WANTED, BUT THE COST WAS TOO HIGH, SO A FINE PUGIN CREATION WAS LOST.(WOULD IT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED IN LONDON?????)THE CHIMNEY PIECE AND TWO CHAIRS ARE PRESERVED IN THE 'VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM' IN LONDON.
