Britain from Above Cataloguing Team Leader

South Crofty was a late addition to the mining operations in the Carn Brea district. South Wheal Crofty ceased work in 1896. A new pumping shaft was sunk in 1902 and South Crofty Ltd was formed in 1906. The mine was still active in 1993 - or so.

This one was not going to stay unlocated for long as there are very few mines for anything other than coal in this country. Much of what we see here can also be seen in EPW009884 which is entitled South Crofty Tin Mine.
