Trolleybus Terminal point in front of Town Hall. Routes 604 - Hampton Court and route 605 - Teddington. When trolleybuses commenced running on 2nd September 1931 they originally terminated in St George Road on the other side of the railway. On 15th December 1932 Trams from Merton which had terminated further up Wimbledon Hill were cut back to terminate outside the Town Hall, while the trolleybuses were extended there. Like all the other routes which had inaugurated the London system in 1931 these routes ran untill the last day on 8th May 1962.

Victoria Crescent. Long since disappeared under Morrisons Superstore. My wife's grandparents owned a hardware shop at number 4 from the early 1920s until 1961, F.G.Butler.

Trolleybus 61 was the First of the five Pay as you enter bus experiments LT carried out between October 1944 and July 1946. Different from other buses in that it had a wide central entrance rather than one at the rear. Also Peters air operated sliding doors were provided rather than an open platform. If the doors were open the conductor couldn't give the starting bell. This bus is seen passing St George Street the original terminating point of trolleybuses in Wimbledon.

I didn't realise I was taking an historic photo when I took this one of 3 St. Mary's Road, Wimbledon on 4th June 2007. There is a plaque in the photo to Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding 1882-1970 Leader of Fighter Command lived here 1941-1954. The house has subsequently been demolished and English Heritage does not allow plaques to be put back on replacement buildings. This is the house before demolition!
