I used to go up here for the Stock Car racing around 1971 to 1973. I remember a race called the Destruction Derby where the last car running won the race. Looking back it was a shame that so many Riley and Wolseley cars were destroyed here but at the time it was really good fun to see the spectacle. Does anyone else have happy memories of this? |

Wimbledon Stadium was home of the famous Wimbledon Dons speedway team from 1928 to 1991, and latterly from 2002 to 2005. The stadium was considered the finest and most luxurious venue for the sport and held the FIM Internationale individual meeting on Whit Monday from 1962 through to 1981. This meeting was second only to the World Final for prestige with the victor claiming a brand new Jawa speedway bike. |
