This is Beech-en-Hurst, built by George Eskholme in 1869 and subsequently lived in by his last surviving daughter, Eva, who died in 1936. It was also once owned by my grandfather, Fred Moncaster who rented it to the Rotherham Health Authority and for a long time it was occupied by a Dr. Giffiths and his very elegant wife, I know because my cousin and I once visited the house, out of curiosity, in the early 1960s. The house was full of Victorian furniture, 2 grand staircases and a grand piano as well as a very well-built conservatory on the side of the house facing Moorgate Cemetery... Subsequent to him leaving and buying a large house near the bottom of Doncaster Gate and across the road from the then Rotherham Hospital, where he worked I think, my grandfather sold the house, for around £6000, I understand and it was subsequently bought and turned into flats during the 1970/80s. Its grounds were also sold off and a small estate of bungalows now occupies what became Reneville Close.. George Eskholme had a very interesting career as an industrialist in the Rotherham area, and was once part of Guest & Chrimes. see Graces Guide- https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Guest_and_Chrimes and http://www.old-rotherham.rf.gd/RenevilleRoad.php?i=1 Regards Dr. Anthony Oates (Fred Moncaster's grandson)
