The large gantry crane in the picture is in the yard of Braithwaite & Kirk, the famous English bridge builders. Their yard stretched from between Charles street on the LHS, Henry street in the middle, and the Ball's Hill branch of the BCN canal, on the RHS. B&K bought out the original Crown Bridge Works from Thomas Fleet of Fleet & Newey in 1883. At the bottom of the image is part of the eight locks of the Ryders Green locks of the BCN (Birmingham Canal Navigations) in the heart of Swan Village, West Bromwich.
