Ex-Midland Railway running southwards to Birmingham, Bedford and London St Pancras

This part of the Midland Railway's network was the old Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway, which linked those two cities via Tamworth and Burton upon Trent. Travel to Bedford and St Pancras would have involved a number of changes as the Midland main line from London to Sheffield was some distance away to the east of the B&DJR.

Further to previous comment southbound this line runs to Birmingham, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Bristol. To travel to London St Pancras by this line you wuld have had to go to Burton on Trent, change to a Leicester train, and at Leicester change to a train for St Pancras.

This was originally the Mercian boy's secondary school and only became part of Moorgate school when the Mercian Boy's school relocated to the Ashby road site in 1960.
