The jetty was a ship breaking site, looks like a destroyer from WW1 is going under the torch.

This view shows the original Midland Hotel in the centre which was rebuilt in the "art deco" style and which in its turn has now been renovated.

The beach in the foreground shows several wheeled bathing machines to preserve the modesty of the female bathers. Later they were ritually burnt.

The battleship in the dock is in Ward's scrapyard. The local council didn't think that a scrapyard was a good image for a seaside resort and eventually it was closed. The jetty was the Morecambe Terminus of the LNWR and has since been renovated, retaining one of the original buildings as a cafe.

The Promenade station was an LMS terminus and eventually closed to become an entertainment venue run by the local council. When the station was operating another building to the right was the LMS laundry and washed the linen from the various railway hotels.

The Central Pier was severely damaged by a storm and eventually dismantled.

The smaller jetties were used for embarking tourists who wanted a sail around Morecambe Bay. Many of the "day tripper boats" which can be seen in the photograph were converted fishing bots called "nobbies" which were built by a small shipyard at Arnside a few miles along the coast.

Wow! For years ive wanted to know what the Morecambe harbour looked like. Now I do. Only part left of it is the Stone Jetty.
