Scotswood War Memorial Unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle on 28th May 1921, this War Memorial stood outside the Blaydon Co-operative Stores shop at the corner of Fowberry Road and Denton Road. It was in the style of a Celtic Cross, and commemorated 79 local men who died in the Great War of 1914-18. The memorial was taken down in 1965 when Denton Road was realigned to facilitate access to the new Scotswood Bridge. Following a public meeting, it was relocated within the grounds of St Margaret’s Church, where it still stands today.
