Trolleybus going either to Canning Town - 685, or V&A Docks - 687. It is just turning at the junction with Lea Bridge Road where (as already said by another poster) an incident happened in October 1940. This involved four trolleybuses of which 3 drivers and a conductor lost their lives and 2 other conductors were posted "missing". This was quite a busy junction with 5 routes passing through (555, 557, 581, Lea Bridge Road, 685 & 687 Markhouse Road / Church Road) making up 152 bus movements an hour during the peaks. There was a turning facility here which ran down Church Road turned into Waterloo Road, then into Gloucester Road, Lea Bridge Road and finally into Markhouse Road.
