This was the site of what was to be the motive power depot for the ill-fated Northern Line extension from Edgware to Bushey Heath. Construction of the extension was suspended at the outbreak of WW2 and the site was used by London Transport for wartime aircraft production. After the war it became the Aldenham Bus Overhaul Works. This closed in 1986 and the site has now been redeveloped.

The Georgian lodge building later occupied by the school replaced a magnificent, but short-lived 18th century mansion (Cannons), the seat of the Dukes of Chandos. The Chandos (Brydges) family were practically ruined financially as a result of losses incurred in the South Sea Bubble investment failure. As a result, the 2nd Duke was required to demolish Cannons and to dispose of the estate and contents. Cannons existed for a bare 23 years.
