All the land between the railway track up to the high street was owned by the city guild the worshipful Carpenters company.This was then called the Carpenters estate all roads were named after ex guild members.There were 2 public houses, the original Carpenters arms and the joiners arms both visible in the photo. there was also a catholic church and st aidens church and hall
