This was originally Brittol House, HQ and laboratory of Brittol Syndicate Ltd, a lubrication and solvents producer. The company went into liquidation in 1934. It is very difficult to discern, but I believe that the sign above the door says 'Motor Industry Research Association' who appear to be the occupiers at this time. In 1953 the building was taken over by the Admiralty Oil Laboratory, which remained at this site until its relocation to Cobham in 1968.

Sadly, this building was demolished, and that was long before the Firestone factory demolition in 1980.

On 21 Mar 1945, one of the last German V-2 rockets to be launched at England in WW2, landed on the Packard works killing 32 souls, seriously injuring 100 and lightly injuring 460. It is said that the factory was completely destroyed and much surrounding property was badly damaged. In this picture, taken about three years later, the site appears to have been completely rebuilt with no sign of the destruction that had taken place.
