This was what we called 'The Bone Yard'. They made glue from bones and also fertiliser. The smell from it was terrible, even over the river in Hebburn.Photos on my www.oldtyneside.co.uk website

Parliament St. The gap in the terrace was where a German bomb hit in WW2.

Ann St. To the right of the flag you can just see the gap in the terrace caused by a bomb flattening houses. That land has never been built on since, so the gap in the terrace can still be seen today in 2014

Walker Ferry Landing which was next to the Bone Yard. The bone yard ( to the right) produced glue & fertiliser from dead animals so really terrible smells drifted around our area in those days.

This row of Slipways were part of the Newcastle Shipbuilding Companies enterprise started in 1919 but unfortunately finished in 1921. The Platers Sheds higher up the land were taken over by Reay Gear Works late 1920s. Gear wheels & gearboxes were produced there until the 1970s. It later became Geo Angus & later still RW Tramsmissions finally closing in the mid 1970s
