Runway 02/20 - the displaced thresholds gave about 3000ft of available runway for operations. This runway remained in use till the late 1970s for light aircraft. With the expansion of the airport and the creation of Terminal 2 the runway was taken out of use and what remains forms parts of Taxiway A and C and a light aircraft parking area. |

Altrincham Road - access to the Avro hangars (521, 522 and 523) was via this road on the Southern side of the airfield.
This portion of the road and the Avro hangars was lost with the construction of the second parallel main runway completed in 2001. |

I once went on an organised behind the scenes visit to Manchester airport and I remember being taken in an airport bus along the main runway! This was about 1981. |
