' This Gear wheel/gearbox manufacturing factory was originally Platers Sheds built for the Newcastle Shipbuilding Co who started in 1919. Unfortunately they went bust in 1921 & a Gateshead company eventually bought the sheds in the late 20s. That company was Reay Gear Works. Later it was bought by George Angus & years later sold to Richardson Westgarth who called it RW Transmissions. It closed down in the mid 1970s & today that land is a housing estate. '
