The old Basingstoke-Alton Light Railway. This section was retained after its closure as a spur to Thorneycroft for deliveries by rail. Watching from Brookvale School, we used to see a diesel shunter with one, maybe two wagons in tow go up the line and deliver them, then return light engine. It was always considered a good day if we "bagged" the Thorneycroft shunter. '
