This was the site of the Royal Naval Dockyard Deptford. It was an important naval dockyard from the Tudor period up until the mid 19th century, when it became unsuitable for the newer iron clad ships. It declined in use and closed completely in 1869. The site was used in both WW1 and WW2 as a military supply depot. '
