Mill Hill East Station. At this time the Northern Line shared the route with the LNER. The LNER route continued north west to Edgware LNER station. The branch was intended to form part of the Northern Heights extension to Bushey Heath and preparatory work was undertaken to double the and electrify the line. At the outbreak of WW2, the project was curtailed and never resumed afterwards. Only a single track section was electrified from Finchley Central to Mill Hill East. The LNER section beyond Mill Hill East was finally closed in 1964, after which Mill Hill East became a terminus for the Northern Line branch only. '
