The Cause is Altered public house which stood just inside the old city walls, by the "Cow Gate". It was over 300 years old, but was demolished when the York Street dual carriageway was under construction as apparently it was considered to stand in the way of a pedestrian bridge that was never actually built. There are many references to and pictures of this pub on Google but I don't own any so I can't add one here. '
