' CURZON STREET STATION....BIRMINGHAM'S FIRST RAILWAY STATION...THE ENTRANCE IS SUPPOSED TO MIRROR THE PORTICO OF THE THEN ENTRANCE TO EUSTON STATION IN LONDON...THE BUILDING TO THE LEFT OF CURZON ST STATION WAS A HOTEL FOR RAIL PASSENGERS....SADLY DEMOLISHED NOT LONG AGO....ALONG CURZON STREET CAN STILL BE SEEN THE LARGE SANDSTONE BLOCKS WHICH FORMED THE BOTTOM OF THE PERIMETER WALLS OF THE STATION. THE SITING OF THIS STATION PROVED INCONVENIENT FOR PASSENGERS BECAUSE OF ITS DISTANCE FROM THE CITY CENTRE, NECCESSITATING A CARRIAGE TRANSFER, THAT A NEW TERMINAL WAS PROMOTED.....THIS BECAME 'NEW STREET STATION'...WITH SEPARATE PLATFORMS FOR THE RAILWAY COMPANIES.
